The power of BTS...More than a best-selling maker, a picture book is published.
The cultural influence of BTS, which is based on huge fandom, is also affecting the publishing industry.

While the books mentioned by BTS or appeared in their contents are selling like hot cakes, the agency has also launched a publishing business based on BTS IP (Intellectual Property Rights).

The agency Big Hit Entertainment announced on the 23rd that it will publish a series of picture books, "Graphics Leerix," which describes the lyrics of BTS songs as an illustration. Preorders began on Monday at Weverse Shop, Big Hit's commerce platform, and Kyobo Bookstore.

On the morning of the same day, Kyobo Bookstore's Gangnam branch was set up to see the actual book before the official release of the series, attracting fans.

The five songs from "Hwayang Yeonhwa" and "WINGS" series, which were loved by fans for expressing the beauty, danger and growth of youth, have been moved to a picture book with a matching plot. A total of six types, including a special package that combines them, will be published.

In "House of Cards," the members were depicted despairing on the Trump card, and in "Butterfly," they were hopeful, playing together in the forest.

"It's different to see BTS unfold in the picture, which I only imagined with my head after listening to the song," said a fan who is thinking of buying all six kinds of products in the series.

In Weverse Shop, all six graphic leixes were sold out less than two hours after preorders began earlier in the day.

The "Graphics Lirix" series can be seen as Big Hit's application of the "IP of Music" presented at a company briefing in February to the publication. The original content of the song has been expanded to other forms of media such as paper books.

It is also notable that the IP division of Big Hit, which does not sign contracts with separate publishers, has its own publication. Last year, Big Hit published the novel "Hwayangyeonhwa the Note 1," which contains BTS' worldview, in Korean, Japanese and English, and sold it on its own commerce platform.

BTS and their music have already become "super IPs" that can be expanded and reproduced into adjacent content such as webtoons, games and dramas.

It is thanks to the active introduction of a narrative, or "worldview," that can penetrate various contents, but above all, the fandom ready to "thickly read" BTS-related content has been built solidly.

Until now, books that BTS has used as musical motifs and books read by its members have become a hot topic among the released fans and have been spotlighted in the publishing industry.

Kim Soo-hyun's essay, "I decided to live as myself," attracted fans' attention as it was known as a book read by Jungkook, and became a bestseller not only in Korea but also in Japan. Kim's new essay, "Easy and Comfortable," has been confirmed to be exported to Japan with a cactus tax of more than 20 million yen (220 million won), the highest ever in Korean publications.

The book on cognitive therapy, which was out of print after its publication in 2009, has also recently drawn attention. As Suga, a member who has shown interest in psychology, was seen carrying him on his way home from work after filming an online concert, fans' attention was reportedly paid to him and a trial was planned.

RM, a member known as a multi-reader, released a photo of the bookcase on the fan community in April, creating a "RM's book list."The cultural influence of BTS, which is based on huge fandom, is also affecting the publishing industry.
