BTS U.N. Speech Debut...RM, seven minutes of moving message.

"I'm Kim Nam-joon. There are many shortcomings and fears. Love me, including who I am, who I was, who I want to be."

World-renowned K-pop idol group BTS took the stage at the U.N. General Assembly on the 24th (local time) as an icon representing the younger generation. It will be the first time for a South Korean singer to speak at the U.N. General Assembly venue.

BTS attended the UN Children's Fund Youth Agenda "Generation Unlimited" event held at the Trusteeship Board Meeting of the UN Headquarters in New York during the day. It is a venue to promote partnerships in the education sector among the Youth 2030 program, led by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Rather than relying on the older generation, the move is aimed at actively speaking out and expanding its authority.

BTS has joined hands with UNICEF since November last year to announce the "LOVE MYSELF" campaign, which was launched to eradicate violence against children and teenagers around the world.

World Bank President Kim Yong introduced, "BTS, which plays the best role representing the youth generation, is here." Soon after, seven BTS members rose from their seats and stood in front of the podium of the conference hall. Leader RM (real name Kim Nam-joon, 24), also known as Rap Monster, grabbed the microphone and began his speech in fluent English. The seven-minute speech was followed by a hearty round of applause.

The event was joined by First Lady Kim Jung-sook and Secretary-General Guterres. First Lady Kim Jung-sook met with BTS at the U.N. headquarters meeting and encouraged them by saying, "BTS is helping young people by representing anxiety and concern about the future they are experiencing through music."

Meanwhile, BTS began its world tour starting at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on the 5th and 6th, and will perform at City Field in New York on the 6th of next month.

City Field is home to the New York Mets in the U.S. Major League Baseball, where top stars such as Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Lady Gaga performed. This is the first time for a Korean singer to perform alone here.

Thank you for introducing me. My name is Namjoon Kim and I am known as RM and I am the leader of BTS. It's a great honor to be invited to this important place to talk about today's younger generation.

Last November, BTS launched the Love Myself campaign with UNICEF. True love is a campaign made with the belief that love begins with loving oneself. The End Violence program, which was a partner with UNICEF, was designed to protect children and the younger generation from all violence.

And our fans played the main role of this campaign with their action and passion. They are the best fans in the world.

I want to start by talking about myself. I was born in Ilsan, near Seoul. It is a beautiful place with rivers, hills, and annual festivals.

I had a really happy childhood there and was an ordinary boy. I used to look up at the night sky and imagine saving the world.

There's a lyric from our early album intro that says my heart stopped when I was about 9-10 years old. Looking back, I think that was the time when I recognized how other people looked at me and started to see myself through their eyes. I stopped looking at the night sky and stars, and I stopped dreaming. Instead, I locked myself in the eyes of other people.

Then I stopped making my own voice, and I started to hear other people's voices. No one called my name, not even me. My heart stopped, my eyes closed.

This is happening to people who are different from us. We've become ghosts. At this time, the music quietly said, "Get up and listen to your own voice." But it took quite a long time for the music to call my real name.

Even when I decided to join BTS, there were many obstacles. Most people want to believe it's not, but some people say it's hopeless. Sometimes I wanted to quit everything. But I'm very lucky and grateful that I didn't.

I'm sure I'll keep going wrong or falling. BTS is an idol who performs in large concert halls and sells millions of tickets, but I'm still a normal 24-year-old man. Everything I achieved was possible because other BTS members were next to me. Also, our fans, ARMY, loved and supported us.

I might have made a mistake yesterday. But yesterday's me is still me. Today, I was made by a collection of past mistakes. Tomorrow, I may be a little wiser than now. This is also me. Those mistakes tell me who I am, and they are the constellations that brighten the universe of my life. Love me, including who I am, who I was, and who I want to be.

Lastly, I would like to say one thing. Since the release of the album, after launching the campaign, we have heard important messages from fans all over the world. How you overcame life's trials and how you came to love yourself. These stories made us feel responsible.

Let's take a step forward. We learned how to love ourselves. I want to urge you to talk about yourself.

I want to ask everyone. What is your name? What makes your heart beat? Tell us your story.

I want to hear your voice and beliefs. Tell yourself who you are, where you come from, what your skin color is, what your gender identity is, and where you come from. Find your name and your voice by talking to yourself.

I'm Kim Nam-joon, and I'm also RM of BTS. I am an idol and an artist from a small village in Korea. Like many people, I've made many mistakes in my life. I have many shortcomings and more fears.

But I'm encouraging myself as much as I can. I love myself little by little. What is your name? Talk to yourself.

Thank you.
